two
Peugeot station wagons, steel, chain, wire, wind, 2003
Peugeot
is the oldest of the
automobiles. Two mid-century Peugeots have been faced-off fifteen
meters from
each other, in the Nebraska prairie. The autos are joined by two
high-tension
wires, strung overhead between two steel armatures attached to the nose
of each
car.
If the weather is right, the wind can induce harmonic vibrations in the wires. If correct conditions prevail, the passing air will make the Peugeot Harp hummm.
The
Peugeot Harp was created to commemorate the ten-year anniversary of Art
Farm,
Marquette, Nebraska, in August 2003.
Jason Stevens has built other sculpture and married partner
Leslie
Raymond at Art Farm.
The
Harp
can play without human intervention.
The piece creates its own schedule of anniversaries, at the
event of
each unpredictable performance.
